Cactus part-time language courses are typically offered at seven levels, from beginner to advanced, suitable for students with and without prior knowledge of the language. Studied in sequence, the seven levels are designed to progress students from beginner level through to advanced. The programme can be picked up at any level, according to existing language skills. Each level can also be studied as a one-off course in its own right to build or refresh language skills at the chosen level.
Courses run consecutively throughout the year with breaks for the Easter and Christmas periods. This provides the opportunity for continuous training, allowing students to progress and move up to higher levels as their skills develop.
To help you decide which level is right for you, please look at the course level descriptions and take our online language level test.

The TeachersOur teachers are qualified and experienced language trainers, and are all native or bilingual speakers. They have been interviewed by our full time Academic Team, and have had their references followed up. We assign classes according to the strengths of our teachers and work with them to ensure the quality of course delivery is excellent at all times. We have also introduced a comprehensive Teacher Development Programme at Cactus, which incorporates a range of seminars, classroom observations, same-language teacher forums, regular newsletters, and information on methodology and hands-on teaching techniques. Our teaching philosophy is based on looking at ideas, asking questions, and meeting challenge.
MethodologyCactus trainers will adopt a 'learner centred' approach to modern language teaching, which enables them to meet your individual needs. Courses cover practice in all 4 skill areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing; however, you will find the focus of our Cactus Foreign Language Courses is on speaking and listening - the main requirements of today's modern language learner. Teachers will use the target language, activities will be communicative, and the language learnt will be relevant to you.
Course MaterialsFor all Cactus Foreign Language Courses you will be supplied with course materials, which form the basis of your study.
At the end of your course you will receive a questionnaire. Your review enables us to maintain the quality of our language courses and ensure you're getting the maximum out of your chosen course.
Bruce was an awesome teacher, very knowledgeable and fun to learn with.
( , Apr 2010 )Had a great experience and want to keep taking classes with you guys. Javier was great!
( , Apr 2010 )I'll always have compliments for Cactus and the way things are run. I appreciate the quick response and personal attention to questions. Class is enjoyable and the challenge is appreciated.
( , Apr 2010 )I enjoyed my class very much. Also my teacher provided an environment that made it easy for me to learn. I would recommend Cactus to anyone looking for a school to learn a new language.
( , Apr 2010 )I think our teacher is very personable and patient. I feel it is okay to make a mistake in this class as he corrects our mistakes in a very constructive way and doesn't make us feel self conscious or stupid. He makes it fun! It is very informative and, while it feels fun and casual, I still think we are learning a lot!
( , Apr 2010 )My first night of class ROCKED!!! I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I am anxious to continue the class. Thanks and best!
( , Apr 2010 )The teacher is great. She teaches very well and is able to pick up on students weaknesses and strengths which is very helpful.
( , Apr 2010 )Gisela is great. She gives a good mix of oral and written exercises and she uses the whiteboard regularly, which really helps. I'm definitely going to take the next level if Gisela is my instructor.
( , Apr 2010 )Victoria is an amazing teacher....patient, knowledgeable, chooses exercises that provide a good fundamental understanding of the Spanish language....you should definitely keep her around.
( , Apr 2010 )I thought it was not only an excellent class but a good bargain for the price. The atmosphere is very friendly and the teachers intelligent and helpful.
( , Apr 2010 )Learning a new language is challenging in many regards, but rewarding in so many more. With the small class size, phenomenal teachers, and fun/interactive learning methods, Cactus provides a platform for superior language proficiency. Victoria simply makes the class with her energy and style, and the communication from Lara has been responsive and always supportive. The experience thus far has been incredible and my only request is for the course to last longer!
( , Apr 2010 )I really like Alex and will sign up for the next class if he is the teacher.
( , Apr 2010 )I really like Gisela and the gravity with which she approaches the class: it is clear that she takes us seriously as learners and has high expectations and standards. I enjoy coming to class.
( , Apr 2010 )I think the professor is very easy to work with, I like her style of teaching and her method of teaching makes learning the language easier.
( , Apr 2010 )This is my second Cactus language course. I have been so impressed with the quality of the courses and the instructors! I would readily recommend this program to my peers in the future. I like the classes very much, though initially I found it very difficult to follow a course taught almost exclusively in Spanish. Though I didn't realize it at the time, my verbal recognition would improve a lot! I have so far to go, but am very pleased with my progress so far. My Spanish-speaking coworkers agree! Great value for the money. Excellent, excellent instructors, who keep the class fun and interesting!
( , Apr 2010 )I enjoyed the course very much. It was very structured, which I feel helps a great deal in learning a language. My only recommendations to this teacher are the following: more out of the text learning exercises and more of an in class review of the homework exercises. Though I really learned to appreciate having the class taught exclusively in Spanish, I felt that for clarification purposes, it would have helped greatly to have the important points reinforced in our native language. I would take this instructor´s course again. Thanks!
( , Apr 2010 )All in all I would recommend Cactus to my friends if they asked me about learning a language. Course was definitely pitched at the correct level. Look forward to potentially stepping up to Beginners Plus in a few weeks.
( , Apr 2010 )She (Nicole Gaudette) was a great and enthusiastic teacher!
( , Apr 2010 )
I really enjoy Peter's class. I was telling a friend that I usually don;t enjoy book-based teaching, but in this case-- it can't be beat. I needed someone to keep me on my toes and help me jump-start the German I studied many years bacl. His approach has been just right.
I teach English as a Second Language and I know the challenges language teachers face. In my special instance, the course suits me very well.
( , Apr 2010 )
It was fantastic! Teacher is just great, with a wonderful teaching style.
( , Mar 2010 )Great. I like how we really learn how to use the language but also learn grammar.
( , Mar 2010 )Cactus is great, and Bruce is an awesome teacher.
( , Mar 2010 )The classes are going very well with Eylem, she is a great teacher and makes learning German so much fun!
( , Mar 2010 )
I have to say that the class really exceeded expectations and I am very happy with Georges. This is my first course with Cactus, and based on this first class, feel very happy that I made the decision to join.
I am looking forward to the rest of the course.
This is my first course with Cactus and overall I am very happy with how it is going. Our teacher Georges is very good and makes the lesson very enjoyable. I know from the other students as well that they are very happy with him as a teacher.
( , Mar 2010 )I am very satisfied with the school as well as with the teacher. She is very competent and supportive.
