Cactus Curriculum

Cactus part-time language courses are typically offered at seven levels, from beginner to advanced, suitable for students with and without prior knowledge of the language. Studied in sequence, the seven levels are designed to progress students from beginner level through to advanced. The programme can be picked up at any level, according to existing language skills. Each level can also be studied as a one-off course in its own right to build or refresh language skills at the chosen level.

Courses run consecutively throughout the year with breaks for the Easter and Christmas periods. This provides the opportunity for continuous training, allowing students to progress and move up to higher levels as their skills develop.

What will I learn?

The course outlines give an overview of the content and learning framework of Cactus part-time group courses and include themes, grammar and vocabulary you can typically expect to cover. These are intended as a guide only and our teachers may at times adapt the course content to suit the specific level, aims and interests of the class.

All of our courses are carefully structured and designed to cover a wide range of topic areas, grammatical structures and skills. Cactus Foreign Language Courses include the following elements:

• Spoken communication to build confidence in interacting with native speakers
• Listening and comprehension skills to improve understanding
• Grammar and sentence structure
• Everyday language for use in real-life situations, both spoken and written
• Core vocabulary
• Pronunciation
• Reading practice and written communication

All of our teachers are fully qualified and experienced foreign language teachers with a specialised background in adult education.

Teachers will use the target language, activities will be communicative, and the language learnt will be relevant to you.

• I think our teacher is very personable and patient. I feel it is okay to make a mistake in this class as he corrects our mistakes in a very constructive way and doesn't make us feel self conscious or stupid. He makes it fun! • Learning a new language is challenging in many regards, but rewarding in so many more. With the small class size, phenomenal teachers, and fun/interactive learning methods, Cactus provides a platform for superior language proficiency. Victoria simply makes the class with her energy and style, and the communication from Lara has been responsive and always supportive. • This is my second Cactus language course. I have been so impressed with the quality of the courses and the instructors! I would readily recommend this program to my peers in the future. I like the classes very much, though initially I found it very difficult to follow a course taught almost exclusively in Spanish. Though I didn't realize it at the time, my verbal recognition would improve a lot! I have so far to go, but am very pleased with my progress so far. My Spanish-speaking coworkers agree! Great value for the money. Excellent, excellent instructors, who keep the class fun and interesting!

• I enjoyed the course very much. It was very structured, which I feel helps a great deal in learning a language. My only recommendations to this teacher are the following: more out of the text learning exercises and more of an in class review of the homework exercises. Though I really learned to appreciate having the class taught exclusively in Spanish, I felt that for clarification purposes, it would have helped greatly to have the important points reinforced in our native language. I would take this instructor´s course again. Thanks!
