Cactus part-time language courses are typically offered at seven levels, from beginner to advanced, suitable for students with and without prior knowledge of the language. Studied in sequence, the seven levels are designed to progress students from beginner level through to advanced. The programme can be picked up at any level, according to existing language skills. Each level can also be studied as a one-off course in its own right to build or refresh language skills at the chosen level.
To help you decide which level is right for you, please look at the course level descriptions and take our online language level test.

The TeachersOur teachers are qualified and experienced language trainers, and are all native or bilingual speakers. They have been interviewed by our full time Academic Team, and have had their references followed up. We assign classes according to the strengths of our teachers and work with them to ensure the quality of course delivery is excellent at all times. We have also introduced a comprehensive Teacher Development Programme at Cactus, which incorporates a range of seminars, classroom observations, same-language teacher forums, regular newsletters, and information on methodology and hands-on teaching techniques. Our teaching philosophy is based on looking at ideas, asking questions, and meeting challenge.
MethodologyCactus trainers will adopt a 'learner centred' approach to modern language teaching, which enables them to meet your individual needs. Courses cover practice in all 4 skill areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing; however, you will find the focus of our Cactus Foreign Language Courses is on speaking and listening - the main requirements of today's modern language learner. Teachers will use the target language, activities will be communicative, and the language learnt will be relevant to you.
Course MaterialsFor all Cactus Foreign Language Courses you will be supplied with course materials, which form the basis of your study.
At the end of your course you will receive a questionnaire. Your review enables us to maintain the quality of our language courses and ensure you're getting the maximum out of your chosen course.
I really like the teacher and the methods he uses to teach from different angels in practicing what we learned.
It makes a big difference when the teacher is motivating us and we enjoy and couldn't wait for the class every week.
The location is also very good in Tribeca.
The Spanish teacher is great, she is organized and very patient.
Having a class once a week is also convenient.
I liked the class in general. It was fun, energetic and a good place to learn. And the instructor, Thibeaut, was one of the best instructor I have had, in any subject. That guy knows his stuff.
( , Apr 2010 )Victoria is an amazing teacher....patient, knowledgeable, chooses exercises that provide a good fundamental understanding of the Spanish language....you should definitely keep her around.
( , Mar 2010 )Gisela is great. She gives a good mix of oral and written exercises and she uses the whiteboard regularly, which really helps. I'm definitely going to take the next level if Gisela is my instructor.
( , Mar 2010 )Enrique is an excellent teacher - very patient and very good at helping us understand. His homework assignments are great and so is his help with pronunciation.
( , Mar 2010 )Very qualified teacher was always ready for classes. Teacher was very supportive, understanding and helpful. All classes started on time. The cactus administration is also very helpful. In a word, it was an enjoying experience!!!
( , Mar 2010 )I really like the school, Cactus and the teacher. I plan to continue my Spanish course in the winter with Cactus.
( , Mar 2010 )I like Rachida a lot and the class is quite interesting. Our classes always seem so short. I've never really had a language class where I wanted it to keep going. We are all very excited to be learning Arabic!
( , Mar 2010 )This course is pretty reasonable, and I can get reasonable amount of exercises for my current level. Also the class size was good, and I enjoyed the interaction with other students.
( , Mar 2010 )The organization itself seems to be well run and very responsive to student's needs.
( , Mar 2010 )This was the only Polish course in the Tri-state area.
( , Mar 2010 )Cactus is a professional school that offers excellent training in Polish. It is very hard to find classes ihn Polish, so it is nice that we get such great training as well. I learned a lot and feel more confidence in speaking Polish.
