Course Outlines - What will I learn?
The Cactus Course Outlines provide a learning framework
for the Cactus Foreign Language Evening Courses. They
are designed to provide you with a good idea of what
you might cover over a 10-week period, and include
typical themes, grammar and vocabulary fields. They
are flexible rather than prescriptive, in that our
teachers may decide to adapt their learning plans
to the specific level, aims and interests of their
classes.

The courses are designed for those who wish to study a language over a longer period of time, achieving up to an advanced level. With the aid of a text book and a 10 lesson podcast per level (included in the price), the syllabus aims to provide useful, relevant language using up-to-date and interesting materials. As well as encouraging participants to practice the language to help build confidence and develop fluency, the course will also focus on aspects of grammar and writing skills. The actual program content will be determined by the level, and to some extent the interests of the group as a whole.
Students can enroll for modules of 10 weeks which run throughout the year. Programs run consecutively with breaks for the Easter and Christmas periods. This provides the opportunity for continuous training, allowing students to progress and move up to higher levels as their skills develop. Lessons take place from 6.30 - 8.30 pm.
What progress will I have made by the
end of the course?

The School - San Francisco Downtown
School
Our new location in San Francisco is situated on Market Street, in a newly refurbished building which is a welcoming and pleasant place to study in.
The school is very convenient for all the shops and businesses in the area, as Union Square (Macys and Saks Fifth Avenue), the Financial District, Yerba Buena gardens and the Museum of Modern Art are all just a couple of blocks away.
The Teachers
Our teachers are qualified and experienced language
trainers, and are all native or bilingual speakers.
They have been interviewed by our full time Academic
Team, and have had their references followed up. We
assign classes according to the strengths of our teachers
and work with them to ensure the quality of course
delivery is excellent at all times. We have also introduced
a comprehensive Teacher Development Programme at Cactus,
which incorporates a range of seminars, classroom
observations, same-language teacher forums, regular
newsletters, and information on methodology and hands-on
teaching techniques. Our teaching philosophy is based
on looking at ideas, asking questions, and meeting
challenge.
Methodology
Cactus trainers will adopt a 'learner centred' approach
to modern language teaching, which enables them to meet
your individual needs. Courses cover practice in all
4 skill areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing;
however, you will find the focus of our Cactus Foreign
Language Courses is on speaking and listening - the
main requirements of today's modern language learner.
Teachers will use the target language, activities will
be communicative, and the language learnt will be relevant
to you.
Course Materials
For all Cactus Foreign Language Courses you will
be supplied with course materials, which form the
basis of your study.
Student Feedback - See what students
have said
At the end of your course you will receive a questionnaire.
Your feedback enables us to maintain the quality of
our language courses and ensure you're getting the
maximum out of your chosen course.
