Language Courses in North America

10-week Conversation Courses

These courses are designed for students who wish to improve their conversational language skills. The syllabus aims to provide useful, relevant language using up-to-date and interesting materials. As well as encouraging participants to practice the language to help build confidence and develop fluency, the courses also focus on pronunciation and accuracy. The actual program content is determined by the level, and to some extent the interests of the group as a whole, and cover discussions and activities in an informal, friendly setting using pre-selected subjects as support, giving access to up to date material from newspapers, magazines, and other sources, using authentic materials to stimulate engaging exchange. There might be some homework involved, e.g. reading articles to be discussed in class. To join these classes students are expected to have at least reached an intermediate knowledge of the language, i.e. they should have completed a Cactus level 6 course or equivalent. The classes will also develop the students listening and comprehension skills to improve understanding.

Cactus offers a variety of courses to suit all needs and budgets. You can take a standard language course from 10 weeks or as little as a weekend course. Learn more about our types of courses.

Course Info

These are group courses which acknowledge individual needs. The content is academically sound and will promote and lead towards long term aims with the language. The teaching, by native speaker teachers, will be communicative, intimate, fun and will engage and stretch the students. Although the emphasis will be on speaking and listening grammar will be included and taught in context. Our courses are monitored throughout, feedback gathered from students at the mid and end of each course (together with any direct contact) and acted upon by Cactus Language Training.
